HALO is a water-powered shower timer. In order to limit water waste in the bathroom, I designed a shower attachment that encourages users to limit their time in the shower by setting a timer and watching the light indicate when to exit the shower.
Audience: Sustainability-minded individuals trying to save water for the environment or parents who want to limit their teenagers’ shower length & water usage.
Research: If everyone in the US reduced their average shower time by 1 minute, we would save 170 billion gallons of water a year. My139 survey responses dictated the average shower length:12.8 mins. I put this value at the center of the control dial and set a range of 3 minutes to 24 minutes to discourage anyone from ever taking showers longer than 24 minutes.
I was honored to earn the Faculty Merit Award for my "outstanding process and performance."
